Proficiency in Ocean Data Science - Online

PODS ONLINE is an online delivery version of the PODS program developed and piloted at the University of Rhode Island.

PODS ONLINE is a resource for individuals, groups, and institutions to better prepare the public for critical thinking through important issues in ocean science worldwide — through development of transferable data science skills highly relevant to society (see a historical white paper).

Data Science to Support Research

Data tells the story — ocean scientists synthesize, process, and write about those stories and publish them in peer-reviewed journals, converse with colleagues, and present the information to the research community and public. The Proficiency in Ocean Data Science course sequence educates its students so they can contribute to ocean data-based investigation of ocean phenomena.

PODS Curriculum

The Proficiency in Ocean Data Science (PODS) ONLINE curriculum begins with five foundational oceanography courses (150, 250, 350, 351, and 1216) in service to the PODS taxonomy.

The Development Team

PODS was conceived and piloted by four PhD faculty and research scientists interested in data techniques for collection, management, and analysis to support ocean science understanding and insight.
